A Note from the Superintendent
(Notable Changes for Parents/Students for Upcoming School Year)

After collecting student data from the 2007-2008 school year, it will be
necessary to strictly adhere to the school system attendance policy for the
2008-2009 school year. According to our data, Henry County did NOT make Adequate
Yearly Progress in the area of attendance this past year. Schools must maintain
at least 95% attendance from its’ students to make AYP. This
past year, our numbers fell below this mark. For this reason, we will no longer
grant excused absences for family trips or vacations during the school year.
There will be no exceptions. State law requires that students who are absent for
more than 10 days fail due to lack of attendance. In only extreme circumstances
can this law be waived (hospitalization, quarantine, etc.) Please review the
calendar posted on our website at
www.henrycountyboe.org and make any
family/vacation plans around the current approved calendar.
Also, due to rising fuel and grocery costs, we will be forced to increase the
prices for paid meals at each school beginning with the 2008-2009 school year.
The prices below reflect the proposed changes in price structure for the 2008-09
school year for Child Nutrition Program meal prices. The only changes are in
full price meals with an addition of $.25 per meal across the board. A la carte
items will be priced according to food costs. Full price Student Lunch - $1.75;
Board Employee Lunch - $2.25; Visitor Lunch - $3.25; Student Breakfast $1.00;
Board Employee Breakfast - $1.25; Visitor Breakfast - $1.75. Please be aware of
these changes. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding, and thank you
for the opportunity to educate your child.
