Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to Abbeville Middle School (AMS) - Where students and teachers shine!
We at AMS are dedicated to providing a thorough academic education for all students in grades six, seven, and eight. We strongly believe that all children can be successful. We support this belief with instruction of the Alabama State Content Standards that are taught by highly qualified teachers in the areas of science, mathematics, English, reading, social studies, Lifelong Individualized Fitness Education (LIFE) formerly known as physical education, and business technology essentials in the 8th grade.
At AMS, teaching and learning is based on state curriculum standards that result in authentic performance tasks in each subject area and at each grade level. Cooperative learning, technological integration, and strong parental support are focuses of Abbeville Middle School.
This year, our school is privileged to be part of Alabama Math, Science, Technology Initiative (AMSTI). This program provided our teachers with two weeks of training during the summer. It provides the teachers with continuous professional support. Because we are a first year AMSTI school, our math and science classes are supplied with resources for the first semester of the 2007-08 school year that provide our students with hands-on-activities which requires the investigation of problems, evaluation of findings, interpretation of data, and the prediction and exploration of outcomes. During the first semester, AMS students will utilize AMSTI’s equipment, such as GPS devices, graphing calculators, high-powered microscope, plant boxes, chemicals/solutions and weather apparatus. In addition to the AMSTI equipment, technology, and materials, our AMS computer lab is equipped with various programs that will enhance learning for our students such as SuccessMaker, Accelerated Math, Math in a Flash, Compass Learning, Accelerated Reading and Math, and Learning through Sports.
Parental involvement is an essential part of your child's successful middle school experience and contributes to the overall school culture of Abbeville Middle School as a learning community.
